Woodstock Was One Of A Kind

They'll never capture something like that again though attempts have happened such as in Woodstock '99 where problems such as extreme heat, expensive food vendors and rampant violence put a damper on the festivities.

Well the Isle of Wight 1970 was arguably an even better concert, but yes, the later Woodstock revivals weren't nearly as interesting, mainly because most of the headliners were dead by even 1979.

Limit of the Willing Suspension of Disbelief: directly proportional to its awesomeness.

There were actually a lot of other big concerts but Woodstock is the most famous of them all.

Monterey Pop Festival
Atlanta Pop Festivals
Altamont (ouch!)
Isle of Wight
California Jam 1974 & 1978
Us Festival
Texas Jams
Live Aid

Bill Graham used to do summer concerts that were huge. In 1973 he did a concert in Watkins Glen, New York with over 600,000 in attendance that featured The Grateful Dead & Allman Brothers Band.

It's true Woodstock '99 was bad, but 5 years earlier Woodstock '94 went off without any problems.

The movie "Gimme Shelter", on which the Altamont Rolling Stones concert was based, imho, was a very interesting film, imho, because it was a more accurate portrayal of what really and truly went on during all those rock concerts. The fact that the Hell's Angels were hired for security was a colossal mistake, imho.

The only festival today that carries on the true Woodstock spirit today is the ticket-free Przystanek Woodstock which takes place late July/early August in Poland every year. The rest are totally corporate endeavours.
