Parents Guide

Any specific scenes that are not intended for younger viewers? Thank you.

reply

Well, actually almost all of them.
It is very weird movie and by today´s standards there are a lot of rather disturbing motives. Do no take me wrong, I love it but I cannot recommend it for kids, say, under 15.

Thirteen year old nudity, possible incest, dead ferrets, lustful priest... it's all good family-friendly stuff!

Just kidding, and the movie is beautiful, but yeah, most parents today won't want to show it to kids until they are at least Valerie's age... 13. And maybe 15.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler.

It depends on your values and how open your family is about puberty, sexuality etc. The story is no scarier than a Grimm brothers fairytale but younger viewers probably won't get what's going on or pick up on the symbolism without an adult explaining it to them.

There is no "one size fits all" as far as age appropriateness goes. A conservative Christian family and a family of liberal nudists will probably have very different ideas about age appropriateness.

That said, IMO this movie is pretty tame fare compared with the stuff that many kids are watching in 2015. The brief nude scene is tasteful and non-exploitative and the evening news is more violent than anything shown in the film. The gothic creepiness factor might be scary for some kids younger than 10 or so but again it's pretty mild stuff.

I agree. This movie is pretty tamed by today's standards. There's too many sexualized things geared towards teens and even preteens.

I think most younger viewers would be bored throughout.
