Blowing Their Own Trumpet....Again

More 'Hollywood' historical revisionism
Honestly, you'd think that the they would give some credit to the facts and portray Britain realistically, but no, instead we get:

It wasn't the fact our troops were poor, it was because they were led by the 'British', irrespective of the fact that the Germans considered the British their chief foe or that the British had driven them out of Africa when no-one else could
The air cover scene was bs as well, however, it was war, you cannot stop every single enemy place getting through irrespective of how good your pilots are and remember we're talking about the Royal Air Force who just two years earlier held off and defeated the largest air invasion ever with a few British pilots and the incredible Spitfire and Hurricane.

'We' intercepted German radio traffic', by we you mean of course the British at Bletchley Park.

I choose to believe what my religion programs me to believe.

there's only one thing more pathetic than Americans going on about how wonderful they are - Brits whining on about it.

reply

And once again, Lyndhen, you prove you're an American masquerading as a Briton because who else but an American would moan about "Brits whining"?
Squeethie's absolutely right- you ARE a pompous twat.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

reply

Fee-fi-fo-fum,
I smell a member of the butt hurt Brit brigade.

reply

And I smell a pompous twat- oh look, it's YOU, Lyndhen!

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Oh, good! So you won't be able to read me saying Lyndhen is a nasty little spud, an obnoxious know it all who actually doesn't. A pillock. An arse hole. A pus filled spot on the anus of mankind. A gormless twit. A waste of space.
An over-sensitive prick. A man with all the charm of an alsation dog after a head swop operation (ct.Red Dwarf). Etc, etc.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

pathetic .. Americans going on about how wonderful they are

reply

Wouldn't say that OP. Think the film portrays Patton for what he was: a war loving lunatic who had no regard for human sacrifice as long as it got him glory.

reply

Pretty dumb post. His job was to end war as quickly as possible and he did just that. He was aggressive and fearless. He was US Grant to Montgomerys McClellon.

reply

NOT Entirely fair; McClellan was too timid; Grant was rather like Monty in that he was stolid, determined & quite willing to use his logistical superiority for all it was worth & drive forward; Patton could be more our Robert E. Lee (though was kind of flips things on their head. Maybe our Sheridan or Sherman makes more sense?)

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

OP: right. That's why Churchill was desperate for the Americans to join the war. You Brits would all be speaking German now if it weren't for the US.

reply

Achtung

It's that man again!!

reply

OP: "you'd think that the they would give some credit to the facts and portray Britain realistically"

Aww, did'ums feelings get hurt?

Saved your tea-swilling arses in 1917, and again in 1942. Don't worry, next time the Teutonic Menace rises we'll come on over and save you again.
