Submarine and Deep End

There's one part in Submarine where the kid jumps into the deep end of the pool while clothed with a sign that says Deep End behind him. Obviously this movie was a big influence on Submarine, although since it hadn't had a proper DVD release when Submarine was made, I don't know how Aoyade watched it (bootleg copy?)

I always wonder, when I hear people talking about films that don't have a public release, how the hell they've seen them. Bootlegs of this are easy to find, and it could have been shown on TV at some point.

Apparently BBC2 aired it back in the late 1970s or early 1980s. It was also released briefly on VHS by Capstan Video.
