They didn't seem in love to me

The way I see it, the whole thing was just to spite their fathers. Oliver did it by marrying a not-rich girl and Jenny did it by not having a religious ceremony. After they were married, they continued calling each other bitch and preppy, and showed mutual dislike to each other's character flaws (he's cold and she's abrasive).

I had the same general feeling watching the film today. This 'love story' wouldn't have lasted long anyway - and life is a bitch. They loved each other superficially like two college students too much in a hurry to get married. I was expecting something more romantic based on what the music -which I knew well already - was conveying to me, but what we are seeing is two young adults already fighting like your average misadjusted couple. Not the unique relationship I would call love. And from the moment one said sorry, it was game over, anyway :-)

And Ali McGraw's shrieky voice REALLY got on my nerves big time. Ryan O'Neal, though, displayed some good acting abilities.

Fabulous music, ordinary story, and the best acting came from secondary roles.

Me and my husband love each other and we always tease and call each other names (not in anger or to hurt feelings) just as a joke and we always end up laughing and having fun. Its just their personalities.

This movie lacked some really ferocious sex scenes that's my only complaint.

they seemed in love to me. they kind of reminded me of my husband and i and they were clearly joking around with the name-calling. especially when she'd call him 'preppy' it was definitely a petname of some sort. and i don't know where you're getting "shrieky" voice? she didn't have a shrieky voice haha at all at any point in the film. one thing that seemed unrealistic to me was that they only have, like, one argument throughout the whole film. one serious one, anyway. but i guess they didn't have much time.

They carried on their romance like two New England Ivy Leaugers of the times. Those people are very different than your average joe and jane.
