There Should be a Remake.

I think that there should be a remake of Love Story. You know a remake for a new generation. There will always be college kids and college kids still fall in love and get married while still in college. The ways of love and marriage still haven't changed, just the times. I mean sure people get married later in life now a days but there are a lot young couples who are falling in love during college and getting married during or shortly after graduation. It's classic love story and it stands the test of time.

Who should play Oliver and Jenny in the remake?

reply

Up and coming new stars, someone we never seen before. Two young actors who have a lot of talent.

Victoria Justice as Jenny.

I think it should be-

Jennifer Aniston and Matthew McConnagehy

or

Seth Rogan and Anne Hathaway

or perhapes if we are going to high school/younger generation-

Emma Stone and Jessie Einsenhower

Elizabeth Olsen is getting great buzz for her work recently. I think she'd be great in a remake. She seems to have more talent than her famous twin sisters.

Instead of all these late twenties or thirtysomething actors in denial over their ages trying to pass themselves off as college-age kids (as did the original cast members 32 year old Ali McGraw and 29 year old Ryan O’Neal), I’d like to suggest two actors who are actually entering their college-age years as the two principals: AnnaSophia Robb as Jenny Cavalleri and Josh Hutcherson as Oliver Barrett IV. I could also see Robert Patrick as Oliver Barrett III and Latham Gaines as Phil Cavalleri.

Five years ago in Bridge to Terabithia, AnnaSophia and Josh played two kids who meet as classmates in school. Despite a significant difference in socioeconomic background, the two form a very close, mutually supportive (“us against the world”) and loving relationship. Robert Patrick plays the boy’s father, who is cold, demanding and controlling toward his son, and the girl helps him to cope with that fractured relationship. Latham Gaines plays the girl’s gregarious father, with whom the boy forms a closer bond than with his own father. Then the girl dies suddenly, and afterward the boy’s father shows up to console him, and the boy realizes that Dad isn’t the cold, manipulative SOB that he thought he was....

Oh, never mind! This suggested cast already did a remake of Love Story!

Reasons why there should NOT be a remake.

The movie ain't broke so leave it the hell alone.

Edited to add the following:
Rather than do a Remake, do a different story or adaptation for the current times.

While it's not quite a "remake" per se, The NoteBook is in itself a classic love story and it should stand the test of time. The movie worked very well without having to be the same as "Love Story".

Actually, I feel like A Walk to Remember is close enough to being a remake. And the person who mentioned Bridge to Terabithia above made a convincing argument for that film as being "remake" for this generation.

Why did I write? Because I found life unsatisfactory.

I agree.

I thought A Walk To Remember was very similar to Love Story

Times have changed. Love Story was a product of the tumultuous times of the 60's. The same problems don't exist any more. So there will be no story.
