Funny that Hackman is now 82...
Two years older than this father's character in this movie. I wonder if he has the same feelings as his character about how old men should be treated when they're within sight of the end of their lives.

shareI just watched this on Turner Classic and was thinking the same thing....
shareBut the character Gene didn't have general, one-size-fits-all feelings about how old men should be treated at the end of their lives. He didn't even have rigid feelings about how his own father should be treated -- his approach to his father varied, depending on where his father was as he (father) moved through his grief.
If you're suggesting that the character Gene somehow treated his father badly, then you missed the major themes of the movie.
