Nice Salary, Costly Care
The dad says he made $50,000 in 1954, the year he retired. That would be $450,000 in 2015.
The old-folks home cost $50 per day in 1970 (year of movie's setting?). That would be about $300 today.
That was one hell of a costly care home and it was not that good.
