Not a big Stones fan but..

Great footage, great idea to have them watch the footage and comment, but the best part of this film is getting to watch the hippie movement end right before your eyes!!

The Stones at Altamont was literally the moment the 60s ended. Specifically, "Sympathy for the Devil".

Notice that moment when Mick is dancing at the edge of the stage, and some young guy is staring at him transfixed and mouths "you're God, man!"

And then that freeze frame of Mick's face at the end of the movie, when he's seen enough. A bit of an "oh sh**" moment of realization.

How on earth did the 60s 'end' with Altamont? I don't get it.

reply

it was December 1969, so, literally.

reply

Well technically decades start on the '1's so there was still a year to go.

reply

26 days till the 1st of Jan. 1970.

But it was (Altamont) just the cherry on the dying cake that started in 1968,
a succession of bummers.

Are you young? There are lots of documentaries about the 60's, that could give you the bigger picture.
Peace.

1971 was the first year of the 70s. Our calendar began with the year 1, not the year 0.

nearly 2000 years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how nice it would be to be kind to people,
..the idea resurfaced again , but was snuffed out within a decade.

RIP peace.

That was the image they wanted to project, but in actuality, the hippie movement was mainly about getting baked out of your skull, having as much casual sex as possible, flouting social norms, and dodging out on any and all of life's responsibilities. If the hippie movement really had been all about peace, love and kindness, it would have endured, but instead, naturally, the movement collapsed under the weight of its own degeneracy.
