bluray???

so its finally coming to bluray next month, by arrow films. arrow usually makes most of there bluray discs region free, at least the ones that i have. but according to the website, this is only going to be a region b release. can anyone confirm this? id imagine this is one of the most looked after films since its oop even in the us now, but it wud really blow if this release is not region free
:( i have the paramount dvd, so yes i know its going to be a flipper disc and i do have a region free dvd player but i want this in HD!

At the end of the day it's been released specifically for the UK market and it being region-locked may be a condition of the licence if Paramount still own the distribution rights in North America. Frustrating it may be but it's exactly how I feel about all the Criterion Collection bluray releases.

I don't know which Paramount DVD version you've got but mine certainly isn't a flipper and the bluray certainly won't be either.

srry, i think u misunderstood. i thought the new bluray coming out was a flipside disc one side w bluray and the other w dvd. i have the paramount dvd that came out bac in 06 which is not a flipper either.

Ah, sorry. The bluray comes with a seperate DVD copy - now I've seen this release I have to say it's mildly disapointing; good, sympathetic reproduction of the film but it could look so much better. Here's hoping there is another release at some point, for both our sakes! :)

wow thats sad they diddnt do a good job with it. i have a few movies by arrow and i guess they are really hit or miss. i really hope some company does step up there game because id imagine alot a ppl wanting this if it ever does come out.

For the record, and to offer another POV, I thought the Arrow BD was fine and pretty much replicated how I remember the film looking when I saw it at a Bertolucci retrospective (projected on 35mm) about ten years ago.

'What does it matter what you say about people?'
Touch of Evil (Orson Welles, 1958).

thnkx alot. i really app. it. i have a number of arrow releases and its weird cuz some of the ones i like, ive seen get panned and some of the ones i think are not that great ive seen admired in certain reviews. i guess what it all comes dwn to is personal preference. but if i ever do get an all region bluray this will prob be one of the first i pick up, that is if criterion does not get there hands on it eventually.

Just to be clear; I agree it's a perfectly good bluray that reproduces the look of the film accurately but given that Storaro's photography is the real star and that I've seen films of this vintage look much better in HD, I found it slightly underwhelming.

so i finally grabbed it the other day in nyc. still need to get the all region bluray player tho so i cant comment on quality, but i actually think that the dvd that is included looks better than the paramount release from years ago. i was able to watch that in my all region dvd player. so i am pleased with the dvd that was in the package.

Raro video is releasing a region A blu ray in November 2014. I hear it's from a gorgeous Italian print.
Not sure what Arrow's looks like, I read on Blu Ray.Com that it's not that good. I have the Raro blu pre ordered. Trusting it can't look worse than Arrow's blu.
