I just finished reading the book for a critical analysis assignment and I'm wondering if i should watch the movie to help me understand it better. Does the movie follow the book well or would i get confused by a different story compared to the book?
shareThe movie cuts A LOT out (which you'd expect because of the length of the book). That said, the story is still very similar, so go for it. I doubt it'd make you understand anything better though (I'm assuming you're talking about themes of it and what not?).
shareI agree with Erock. The movie is missing quite a bit from the book, but that is to be expected. Still, the plight of Yossarian is captured quite well in the movie.
Will it help you understand the story more by seeing the movie? Can't say. I watched the movie after reading the book. I had already understood everything, since I was able to absorb the book at my own pace. I could reread passages, if I was uncertain about something. So, I had no trouble with the movie. I do wonder how confusing the movie may be to people who had not read the book, though.
I doubt the movie will reveal anything you couldn't figure out yourself by going over the book.
