In the scene where Yossarian dances with Lucia, we hear a version of "Where Or When". I'd like to know who did that version in the film. I can't find a credit for it anywhere. I think I heard it once on one of those cable music only channels, but I was too late to see or write down who the group/band was.
Any Jazz fans know which cover of "Where Or When" was used in the film? I want to get a copy somewhere. Thanks in advance.
We are on the same quest. I hate to disagree with you, but the smooth & sultry song in question is not "Where or When". It's "September Song". I've been downloading various versions of this tune looking for the one used in the film, but haven't found it yet. I'll let you know if I ever come up with it.
Update: August 11th - SUCCESS!!! I found it. It's a 40's version of "September Song" recorded by Django Reinhardt.
Yes, you're right, it is the September Song. I haven't heard the Django version you speak of, but I just compared it against the Harry James version. I'll see if I can dig it up or not.
Yes, Kurt Weill co-wrote September Song. But he has little more to do with the perfomrance(s) used in the film, if at all.
If you listen closely to the music in the film, it sounds like two different versions of September Song - One may be Django, or intended to sound like his style. Then when they draw in close while dancing as Yossarian starts to flashabck about Snowden, the clarinet solo starts, which is NOT on any version of the song by Django I have heard. I've heard so many versions of ths song in past weeks that I'm wondering if I really want to bother finding out anymore. In fact, the only clarinet version I have found yet is Artie Shaw, as "everyone else" plays piano, sax, or an entire band.
The quest goes on, but to prevent myself from being burned out on the song, the research will pause for a few more days or longer.
and it's from the album "Django's Blues," and available on Napster. I recognized the little clarinet interlude that is from some Greek song I believe.
Anyone else notice how they copied this dancing scene in Biloxi Blues, with the hero dancing with the girl of his dreams as the camera revolves around them? In Biloxi Blues, the song is "How High the Moon," but a slower version than I could find, until I found the Pat Suzuki version.
