McWatt's victim
What was the name of the character that McWatt chops in half with the prop of his plane before he (McWatt) commits suicide by crashing into the mountain?

shareThe character's name was Hungry Joe, the group photographer, one of the many minor characters in the novel. Actor Seth Allen was cast as Hungry Joe in the film, but the character really wasn't developed in the movie.
As "ridge-m-1" stated, other than the long shots on the raft at the beach, when he is chopped in two by the propeller of McWatt's low-flying plane, Hungry Joe only appears onscreen very briefly (flitting around, taking pictures) when General Dreedle and entourage arrive for the mission briefing, and again at the medal ceremony.
As "vermylen-1" said, the character who got chopped in two on the raft in the book was Kid Sampson, not Hungry Joe, and as "Risselada" said, in the book Hungry Joe was suffocated by Huple's cat, who slept on his face.
actually, in the book, it is not hungry joe who gets sliced, but another minor character. ill look it up and get back to you :)
shareYes indeed, Seth Allen was cast as Hungry Joe. A sharp eye can detect him snapping photos of Dreedle's WAC during the medal awarding ceremony. Most all of Seth's work was left on the cutting room floor as a result, rumor has it, of a disagreement with Mike Nichols.

In the book it was Kid Sampson... I still know it by heart! And I read the book years ago. Is this movie good? Never saw it, I ought to though, but it would perhaps be a disappointment after the book...
The script is pretty good--it uses a lot of dialogue from the original text, but, of course, a lot of it was edited. (even the part where a doctor proclaims Yossarian insane, but A. Fortiori gets sent home in his place!) But I just couldn't get past Alan Arkin's accent the first time through.

Now that I've seen it a few times, I think Alan Arkin did a really good job.
shareAnd in the book Hungry Joe was actually suffocated by Huple's cat who always sleeps on his face.
