Why not Henry Fonda for Major Major Major? Did they consider casting him in this?

He didn't look that old though. He would have been 65. He did Once Upon a Time in the West about the same time, and he didn't look all that old to me in that film. I think he could have pulled off mid 40s.

I can't imagine Henry Fonda as a bumbling fool, like Bob Newhart protrayed.

Nobody's looking for a puppeteer in today's wintry economic climate.

Bob Newhart was a popular absurdist comic and this was an absurdist comic film. He's hilarious in this role. Make sense now?
