Why is he called Major Major Major Major?

His rank is Major and his name is Major Major. Where did the forth Major come from?

reply

His middle name is also Major.

reply

You need to read the book, his middle name is Major too..... Because of his name and a typo in his record in boot camp he obtained the Rank of Major without any qualification.

I actually only read the book, alas, in its Hebrew version. From what I've read here, it's better not to watch the film. I didn't notice that it said that its his middle name as well. Maybe I should reread it :o

In the book, Major Major's father had a mean and spiteful sense of humor, and purposely gave him the first and middle names of "Major" at birth. When Captain Major Major Major was promoted to the the next military rank of Major, he became "Major Major Major Major."

Clear?

My fave chapter (almost) in the book! So funny.

Stop pretending anything in that abortion of a book was "good".

In the book, that's correct, yes. In the film, Colonel Cathcart promotes him to Major because he needs a new squadron commander, and, to his diseased logic, someone called "Major" is good enough to have the rank of Major as well.
