Where did Felix serve in the Army?

In one episode (the David Steinberg episode), Oscar mentions that the Germans awarded Felix a medal for the cleanliest barracks when he was a prisoner of war. (Felix: ""Lies! I never accepted that medal! I threw it back in their faces!")

And in another episode, it is mentioned that felix served in the invasion of Anzio. (1944)

And in another episode, the one where Felix steals money from Oscar and invests it in a Japanese restaurant, their Japanese Partner (played by Pat morita) says that he and Felix met on the Island of Guadalcanal during the war. (Guadalcanal operation: 1942-1943)

So, what happened? Did Felix get transfered from the south pacific to the European theater?

Continuity was never one of the series strengths. It's a fantastic show, but there's a looong list of continuity errors in this show.

reply

Continuity was not their strong point.

Was'nt there also another episode where Felix entertained Gen. Patton with Richard Dawson in England during the war?

They revealed that Patton cmae backstage and slapped them both. It's true , continuity was butchered often, but the show was so good it is easy to overlook

reply

Continuity gets jeopardized sometimes in comedies in order to fit the joke or story at the time.

Felix also served on Guadalcanal. That's where he met Mr. Yamada, the owner of the Japanese restaurant in "Partner's Investment."

It's odd that Pat Morita's character is named "Mr. Yamada" during the episode but "Mr. Wing" in the credits.

reply

Yes, that is correct.

That line about Felix being awarded a medal by the Germans was my favorite.

To his credit he did throw it back in their faces😄

And I figure since Felix was known as Felix the Pest in childhood I can see why he served in both Europe and the Pacific during the war.

Jack Klugman served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war he pursued acting roles while living in New York City. His roommate was the late Charles Bronson.

Tony Randall served four years with the United States Army Signal Corps in World War II, refusing an entertainment assignment with Special Services.

My dad served in both the Atlantic (Patrol scouting for U-Boats) and in the Pacific theater during WWII, so it's possible, albeit not likely, that Felix got shuttled between combat areas.

More likely I would agree with some previous posters and just say it was the writers tossing continuity out the window, as they were wont to do on this show.
