Happy and peppy and bursting with love!

This episode, in which Jaye P. Morgan (a singer who I seem to remember had a REALLY big coke problem in the 70's) is one of my favorites. I love the scene where they are recording the demo tape and Oscar can't figure out how to use the tambourine correctl.

I've seen that episode a dozen times over and that scene still cracks me up.

I was in grade school when The Odd Couple was on tv, but my father never missed an episode. Back then there were only 3 channels (the major networks) so pretty much everyone I knew watched the show.

That song, 'Happy and peppy and busting with love' has stuck with me all these years. I used to sing it all the time...its very catchy! (I wonder if Randall did indeed write it.)

I had forgotten about Jaye P Morgan until I saw this show recently. The main thing I remember about her was The Gong Show.

Cringe worthy song/lyrics.

My thoughts exactly.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.

reply

That's what makes it so funny, is how cringe-worthy it is. Poor Wolfman Jack's reaction was priceless.

You brought me DOWN!

reply

The song might have been better if Oscar's lyric idea was used:

"Jumping and rolling
Like a frog with a hernia (ribbit, arghhh)...."

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

reply

It's a catchy song, all right, but not as catchy as "Let's Hit Hitler Where He Lives."

reply

And not nearly as much of a gut-wrenching commentary on the human condition as "Once There Was A Man Named Oscar (Oscar, Oscar, Oscar)."

reply

Yeah, social commentary in music is pretty much dead, I'm afraid.

reply

Oh yeah, when I saw that one I fell on the floor nearly dying from laughing! "You Saved My Life" is one of the funniest episodes.

Why do they call 'em soap operas anyway? Those things are FILTHY!----Fred Sanford

reply

I think of that song a lot! I also think of the line Felix says in the episode when he has insomnia: "I'm up! Up as a pup! Arf arf arf!"

"Two gin and Frescas"
"Shaken, not ridiculed"
