Unrealistic apartments

One thing suddenly jumped out at me when I was watching recently. I never realized how unrealistic the apartment front doors were, with their steps down. I get why they did it, so actors can make a grand entrance, raised up a step or three, but in terms of verisimilitude, it falls flat. Maybe that works with suburban homes like the Brady Bunch house, but in NYC high rises, nobody's going to put the hallway floor outside a foot higher than the apartment floor. It would be a waste of ceiling height and construction material.

Not to mention how the apartment magically changes to a huge living room with 200 people watching and laughing at them.

It was a high end apartment. Both of these men were in very high paying jobs and could afford little luxury, even with their alimony.
