Fess Parker. He turned it down because he was retiring from Hollywood to look after his business interests.

Leave it alone! Dennis Weaver played McCloud. If Hollywood wants a show, create something new!

Uh, the OP meant Fess Parker was originally asked to play McCloud but Dennis Weaver ultimately got the role. It was not implied that someone wanted to reboot the series. Is Fess Parker even alive?
