VEI needs to release a box set of McCloud...

It needs to be done right, with everything restored, including the season-by-season NBC Mystery Movie Theater intros. VEI did such a good job with McMillan & Wife - I'm sure they're the ones to handle McCloud.

It's too bad Madman Entertainment couldn't release it. They cared enough that they searched for and found the original six episodes, something Universal made almost no attempt at. They have the rights to release all the seasons in Australia and they have, but I doubt Universal would extend those rights to the US.

Madman Entertainment has released it. But it has two problems:

1) It's Region 4, and

2) It doesn't have the original NBC Mystery Movie openings from season to season, but includes a bawdlerized "generic" version in the 'Special Features,' sans voiceover (which should say, "Tonight starring Dennis Weaver as McCloud"), with a different music clip blended in at the ending in order to conceal the fact that they used the VEI version released with McMillan and Wife.

Since this was Madman Entertainment's idea of a proper release, I'd prefer they didn't handle the release to Region 1.

I said as much in the second half of my post.

That's the Australian edition after all. Only an Australian watcher could tell us if a version of the NBC Mystery Movie intro was used at all during the original broadcasts there.

I'd be willing to sacrifice the season intros in favor of the original season 1 episodes, rather than the merged episodes in Universal's region 1 set. Those were so confusing.
