"New York" locations

I've been watching a couple of episodes (from 1972 and '73) on MeTV. It's a shame that they often use what are obviously Universal's generic-looking backlot "city streets", instead of the real thing. Of course that was common practice back then-- and maybe on our little non-HD 1970s TV sets we were less likely to notice it-- but still.

I think, the only time Dennis Weave was in NYC, in the entire series, was in the opening montage. Saving money I guess.

I've also commented on some of the episodes I've seen recently. Either I was dumber in my teenage years or just not paying attention.

No doubt we were using our imaginations more. Nowadays certain shows have big budgets and are shot in the city they represent (bluebloods). I'd still take mcloud any day, great cast, great storylines.

Shows like ABC's Castle film outside scenes using fake NYC streets in the studio lot or try to fake LA area buildings as NYC.
