Every episode of McCloud that my family and I watched in the 70's occurred in this manner:
1) Flashlight guy appears 2) We see the rotating list of possible choices for tonight's episode 3) We start shouting "come on Columbo...come on Columbo" 4) The announcer says "tonight starring Dennis Weaver as McCloud" 5) We groan with disappointment
We were somewhat the same, although we did also enjoy McCloud and McMillan. We groaned whenever it was that 4th choice, no matter the character NBC kept trying.
McCloud was my favorite. I enjoyed Columbo, but occasionally had the stray thought the murderer should just kill him and give everyone some relief. I had nothing against McMillan, but I find no great enthusiasm for revisiting it, either. Part of that may be from the way they handled Susan St. James' exit from the series.
I always hated McCloud because I wanted Columbo to be on.
Sometimes it was McMillan and Wife.
I don't hate McCloud now because I have seen all the Columbo episodes as well as "Murder By Death".
Does anyone remember Faraday and Co, with Dan Dailey?
I think it only ran a few episodes and maybe a pilot.
The plot was Dailey being released from a POW camp somewhere after 25 years, and becoming a private eye. Obviously he was often confused by the modern world.
