Lou calls everyone to the office to share an idea, and Mary distracts him so he forgets it. Then he almost remember it and Ted interrupts his thought and he forgets it for good.

That is in the episode "Where there's smoke, there's Rhoda," from the second season. One of my favorite episodes- love the MTM show!
