Melody - Misty Rowe Lookalike

I never saw the cartoons until recently but I grew up reading the comic books and I was surprised to see in the cartoon series, Melody does not "sing" her comments (in the comic book musical notes are shown at the beginning of every comment by Melody); I guess it could be annoying if she sang all everything she said like the comic books suggest.

Has anyone else noticed how much Melody looks like actress Misty Rowe though (of HEE HAW and "Goodbye Norma Jean" fame). It almost looks like they used her for the basis of the character yet Misty Rowe was yet not famous at the time. Melody even has Misty's "personality" from HEE HAW!

According to the unofficial Josie site Jozine,Josie was created as early as 1958 but didn't become a strip until 1961,and eventually got published as a comic book february 1963. Melody appeared in the 1961 strips becoming the only character other than Josie to appear through out the entire run of the franchise.Even Josie's mother seemed to get written out.Misty Rowe would have been eleven when the comic book appeared. Misty just carried on the tradition of the dumb blond archtype.when I finally saw the series,she reminded more of Gracie Allen than anyone else.
