Is there any relationship between the two? I know there is at least one actress in the family of Max Born (the scientist): Olivia Newton-John (I was once going to a school named after Max Born and his son visited us telling that).
So maybe this young actor from Satyricon (Giton) could be related to this famous scientist, too (nobel prize winner in 1954). Does anybody know something about it?
As I can see that you are still around on these boards, it may make sense to reply one year after you've asked :-)) (although the first one of your 2 links does not work any more, and perhaps for a good reason? From the name of the link it seems it showed a photograph of Hiram Keller, who played Ascyltos, and not of Max Born who played Gitone).
Well, my response will be very unsatisfactory, I am afraid. Fact is, I don't know the answer, but I had asked the question myself. From what I found, Fellini has discovered Max Born among a group of hippies living in a camp; during the shooting of the film, Born rented a small apartment in Rome, the walls and doors of which he decorated with drawings, many of them obscene, but pretty and delicate, and after the film was finished, he went to (returned to?) England and again lived with a group of hippies in a "gypsy camp". From this meagre description in Bernardino Zapponi's book about Fellini (Zapponi he was a collaborator on the script of "Satyricon") Max Born might as well have been a painter.
This does not shed any light on a possible relationship between Max Born the amateur actor and the homonym scientist, we don't even know whether the actor's name is a pseudonym, all than can be said with relative certainty is that his traces get lost in Great Britain.
