Why did Fellini cast English-speaking actors in this Italian film? Martin Potter and Max Born are both from UK. Hiram Keller is an American.
Was it easier? None of them did have to learn a single line of course, but three Italian actors had to be hired for dubbing them.
There were often English, American and German actors in Italian movies, maybe to make it more interesting for the international audience that didn£t know to many Italian actors (think of all these Italo Western).

Fellini never cared too much where actors came from and what their language was because every single character in his movies is dubbed anyhow, the Italian ones, too. (If you look a bit further down on this board, there's the thread "Why always dubbed?" which explains why.)
Fellini's choice of actors largely depended on their faces, he meant to find the ones that according to his imagination would fit a role best. Many of them weren't even professional actors to begin with.

Because at the epoca where it was made...so many years ago..It was absolutly impossible for italians actors to be represented as homosexuels. With anglosaxons actors fellini did what he wished without chocking the italian opinion.
