Just saw this for the first time...

Oh my god

What a film!!

That is all I can say for now... I have to get over this incredible experience before I can post anything sensible

I agree it's incredible. The book by Petronius, or the remnaints of it, is also worth reading.

Interesting reaction some 43 years after the films initial release. Many of the participants have passed on but the films impression, as expected, appears to go on and on...

That was my first reaction too after seeing it late one night on tv. I missed the first 15 minutes so I had no idea what the film was. That was 10 years ago and I still think about it. It's an incredible visual feast. I have a vhs copy but I'm worried if I watch it again it'll destroy my initial interpretation. Not many films can affect me so much after one viewing and so long ago.

The DVD version is worth checking out as it adds to the film's visual splendor especially during the "blue" and "red" scenes wherein individual objects are more clearly and vividly deliniated. Perhaps we'll get a blu ray version eventually as has happened relatively recently with at least one other Fellini film.

I saw the film on the large screen when it first came out at the little art house Balboa Theater, with several of my friends in, how shall I put this...varying states of altered consciousness. After a short while, I became unaware of reading the subtitles and absorbed them as spoken language. We all had different experiences, yet all were profoundly moved by the film. For me, the last scene, where the narration stops in mid sentence, and we see all the characters as ancient frescoes struck me as one of the most important and profound things I had ever seen.

My ignore list is much too long for a sig line.
