wild and exciting along the way. I've nothing to add to the many reviews posted on IMDb. This film is bawdy and debauched in glorious technicolour. The Romans of the Latin world would have approved.

The most beautiful shot was the elongated neck of the soldier who kisses the widow.

I totally agree!
What a director and what an artist.
I do have to say that, taken as a whole, it's a bit too much for me. But, like his best films it is full of unforgettable scenes, costumes, performances and sets.
I understand it's a cult classic, or was when it came out, not sure if it still retains it's cult status today though.
