I think I remember seeing a film when the bad guys stole Herbie's bluprints and made an exact copy of him, only it was black. What film was that called and what was Herbie's clone called??

It was Herbie 1997 with bruce cambell. The black car was named horace i think.

and the clone was evil because no objects with affection were in the mix from wich the metal of the car was made... the movie did feature bruce campbell. i have seen this film on tv, but never could obtain it later. and that is a shame since that is the only herbie movie i'm missing in my collection

Yeah Horrace, the technical advisor was not enthusiastic on reproducing herbie in the 1997 remake of The love Bug, his bonnet 53 was too small and the pin stipes all wrong.
The original Love Bug 1968 Film car was snapped up by an Italian Film Company wanting to cash in on Herbie's Fame they showed Herbie beat up and in two pieces on a trailer in the opening scene of "DUDU the Craziest Car In The World" 1970
When I was little I had the'97 version mixed up with the original 'Love bug'.Last Christmas we got this box set of the 4 Herbie's.After watching the 'Love Bug'(the original), I said, 'Hey where's the part where Herbie gets cut in half?' We watched the bounus features and found out that the scene I remebered most was from the T.V. movie.
Which just happens to have Herbie's number 53 too high on his hood.

yes most people get confused as the remake 1997 TV MOVIE was the last film made of herbie and shown most of all on cable tv and disney channel,and remains the most likely to be seen.
Did you know there was a TV Series made of herbie after that came out!

there is also a collectors 2 disc edition of THE LOVE BUG 1968 not with the boxed set, it features about 2 hours of extras just to do the first film.

primarilly featuring herbie without his stripes, in the end he got cut in half right down the middle from door to door, there is a blooper in it, when herbie loses his wheels and is driving on two wheels he is missing the 53 off its door, this happened because herbie actually rolled during one of the takes and ruined his door, this wrecked door herbie can be seen wrecked starting in the mexicana tijuana race earlier in the film.
however in 1997 (very rare to find) the remake of the love bug, in the end herbie gets cut in half again just as the first film only this time differently from up the rear to the front, this car can be found on you tube showing it being used in disney theme park in orlando floridas stunt show.
the 1997 film is the car which has the decal 53 font incorrect they actually use some roadsign font, wheras the original love bug has a special 1960's racing font, in the 1997 remake these wrong fonted stickers are too high in the front bonnet and small, also the stripes are incorrect width.
