You listen to it, he says 'He's dead, he's dead!, when a deceased persons name comes up on the credits, and he seems a rather unlikable bitter man on the dvd, which ruins it for the listener. Dean Jones and Michele Lee were excellent but Buddy Hackett was a fool!
I didn't think Buddy was that Bad on the Commentary If you think about it he was at the End of His Time on this Planet he died soon after the Relise of the DVD Maybe he was being more Thoughful about the Passing of time and knew his time with us was Short. I really liked the Commentary Better then some I have Listened to on Other Films.
I thought he was funny in that movie. I love seeing the original movies. I have seem Freaky Friday-The first and Second one. And Love Bug. Now im dying to see Herbie:Fully Loaded. Now that movie is gunna make sense since i saw the first movie. Now i need to see all of Herbie movies!
We're talking about the commentary on the DVD's here, not the movie itself. And I doubt you would have needed to have seen the first four movies, or even one, in order to enjoy watching the latest - Fully Loaded. I was gonna watch it, but then I heard Lindsay Lohan and Michael Keaton among others were in it, and I immediately had a sick feeling in my stomach. Herbie deserves to be among quality actors not some washed up has been and a new teen queen of teen trash movies which nobody was waiting for.
You have to remember that since the Love Bug, buddy hackett was a Crude standup comedian in Las Vegas Circut he toughened up, it was mereley the tough times he remembered over the years with parties, lunches, and collegues now past on, yes he did stray from recalling scenes and memories from the film, but everyone he knew, befriended, or worked with were all gone,as didBuddy himself just months after the interview commentary took place, but i agree, the commentary doees stray from the movie alot, JERK ...NO... just an aging mans thoughts flowing.
Ever asked a 79 year old their memories, you wouldn't be able to stop them either..lol

Agreed. i knew i wasn't even going to see it when she was announced for the part let alone when it was made. And this was years even, way before her recent jail (hah, 'supposedly') * cough* time/term came in 2010 of this year. Why didn't Herbie: Fully Loaded have somebody like; Ellen Page, Thora Birch or Natalie Portman in the lead role for example? Disney would so easily be ranking in massive DVD sales and the film would've had a higher box office count during its original film release, guaranteed!
Far as Buddy Hackett commentary goes...
Times have changed by now, besides doing many films, Hackett was a raunchy comedian on stage long after the classic film was completed. Buddy Hackett done adult related comedy sketch show styled material on stage and like many of his peers, he said to have many cutthroat jokes and sharp punchy routines onstage that few comedians or customers talk about his shows in public or outside unless its directed at another adult. although why he wasn't in the movie; 'The Aristocrats' (2005) i'll never know, he seem to be missing even in terms of some sort of *archive footage* at the very least.
The fact he did any DVD commentary says alot to be honest, not many actor/comedians of his generation who have passed on or are still alive and very old by now, can say the same thing. Although even with all that said in mind, he was kinda annoying on the DVD commmetary it must be said however it true.
But one should be greatful he even gave one though regardless!
@superturbo4 Lindsay Was under Contract with Disney from till 2009 and That was the top rated Female actor for Disney, although Lindsay started to Display antics on set, she was given one more film to do with Disney before they let her go as per contract " Freaky Friday" and after that she was on her own, and suddenly being out there without a job that she had since age 12 it hit her hard and she went down the wayward path, as for Michael Keeton he too was under contract with Touchstone and was chosen after Denis Quaid finished his Touchstone Disney contract in 2004 and was already making the movie Yours Mine and Hours at the time.
among others unavailable for First choice casting for Herbie Fully Loaded was Justin Kucher, Christina Ricci, Hanah Montana, David Schwimmer, and Anne Heche. But lets stick to the posting regarding "The Love Bug" (1969) and re: Buddy Hacket as this thread belongs in reference too.
