the ending (spoilers)

Hmm, I dont know if i understand the ending (or there should be something to understand.
So the bird died, thats sad. So thats it!?
Is there anything symbolic that I missed during the end?

Can someone pls explain that to me...thanx

Kes symbolises the only route out of the *beep* life Billy is destined to follow.

He loves and cares for the bird but dispite him putting his heart and soul and end every waking moment into raising Kes, he is killed by meand beyond his control.

It's an analogy for his life and life of anyone growing up in that environment. Try as you might, and even excel at something, your dream will be crushed by meand you cannot control.

Heartbraking and brilliant.

I had trouble understanding the Yorkshire accents. Did the hawk die? I thought the brother killed it. And if he did, why did he do it?

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, or doesn't.

Yes, Billy's brother killed Kes. Instead of bringing the brother's money to the bookie to bet on the races, Billy spent the money. Not only that, but he'd bet some longshots that came in, so he would have won fairly much. He killed the hawk in anger and revenge.
