That was tame compared to how a lot of Yorkshiremen talk, they have actually slowed the speech down.

I'm usually quite good with British dialects; Glaswegian dad, Londoner mum, I was born in Wales, lived in Liverpool, but even I had to put the subtitles on for this!

Taking nothing away from it, though. Great film. Stands up 40+ years later without a doubt.

Leaving aside the dialect, the sound quality of the film is not brilliant.

I'm glad that they recorded a full-length film in Yorkshire dialect. There are numerous other dialects in England that are virtually dead now (e.g. in the West Country or some of the rural parts of northern England), and there were never films made to capture their speech for future generations to hear.

I put the subtitles on at the very start and ended up leaving them on for the entire film. Still enjoyed it though.
