Minnie and the banana

I recently purchased this film on Blu Ray after not seeing it for many years, although I've
always enjoyed the film.

One line has me stumped. As Irene and Minnie are walking to their shop, and Minnie
is eating a banana, Irene says something to effect of "hurry up and finish your banana - the
men are looking at us, and not for the right reason."

I'm guessing this is a sex joke, although I can't see Ernest Lehman doing this in such an
innocent musical. But I can't figure out what else Irene is REFERRING to when says this.

Thoughts?

Well, that was in pretty poor taste, although I guess it was Lehman's way of "defining" how much Irene wanted to
find a guy.

I thought the same thing! I was like...that was definitely intentional..but it's hard to fathom in that day and age...but yeah it couldn't mean anything else...there was something else like that that caught my attention...can't remember it but yes I agree.
