By 1968, Carol Burnett was a star in her own right. I doubt she would settle for a "supporting" role, and that description of the part is generous.
I've mentioned it on another thread, but Ernestina ("Gussie Granger") also has another brief cameo in the film in another role: during the opening scene (the prelude to "Just Leave Everything to Me") she plays a little girl in pig tails in tow with her mother. She looks like such a big lug and unbelievable as a child---I often wonder if Gene Kelly stuck her in there as a humorous anectdote.
If it's the same "little girl" I'm thinking of, she is actually played by an uncredited Allyce Beasley, aka Agnes DiPesto from "Moonlighting."
