I think my school is doing this next year... I have some questions

My high school is apparently doing this next year, I'm sure it's a good show but who should I audition for? I'm a boy and am going to be a sophomore next year, BTW. This year we did Alice in Wonderland (I was Humpty Dumpty) and The Music Man (I was Constable Locke). So how many worthwhile male roles are there in Hello Dolly?

reply

4 roles:

1. Horace Vandergelder: 50-60 years old, gruff, grouchy, conservative, owner of store.
2. Cornelius Hackl: 20s, eager, energetic shop clerk at Vandergelder's. Immature and naive, but seems worldly and experienced next to. . .
3. Barnaby Tucker: 19, very naive and inexperienced, also works for Horace.
4. Ambrose Kemper: 20s, young artist in love with Horace's niece Ermengarde (though Horace doesn't approve of him because he's an artist).

For a sophomore, I suggest Barnaby Tucker or Ambrose Kemper, or if you're comedic, play Rudy the head waiter at Harmonia Gardens

Anywhere you go, let me go too...that's all I ask of you

reply

Well, here are some of the male roles:
Horace Vandergelder
Cornelius
Barnaby
Ambrose
Rudolph (the waiter)

Those are just some of the main roles in the show.

We did that one year too.

The reason why we watch musicals because there is always a high school somewhere that is doing a production of the script. I know MEGA BIG difference between high school kids putting it on and paid professionals on a sound stage (or even on Broadway).

Still, you gotta start somewhere.
