As someone else said on the board here. When the computer assembly was final no one thinks to install a safeguard in case it runs amok.
The "rogue" computers in these movies always conclude(correctly so?) that human beings are evil and self-destructive. Therefore, in the computers' self-interest, the humans must be controlled or eliminated.
I think this is the most impressive idea ever fleshed out in Sci-Fi movies(The Invisible Boy, Creation Of The Humanoids, Forbin, the Terminator...). Cautionary tales concerning our conflicted nature.
And BSG.......
But cylons are more clones then machines... Well the fleshy ones at least
