Gordon Pinsent's portrayal of the President, aside from the fact that he looks like JFK, is loaded with his mannerisms. It almost makes this film seem like an alternate history.

It is like an alternate history although he not supposed to be JFK but the president as shown in the film looks just like...JFK.
