Totally agree. In terms of comedy this is as good as it comes concerning sit-coms.Classic.
Go to the carryonline forum for more detailed comments on On The Buses.
I guess at this time in America, we were watching Brady Bunch, Mary Tyler Moore, MASH, All In The Family, Carol Burnett show.
Saturday night was considered a comedy block on one network for showing Bob Newhart show, Mary Tyler Moore, All In the Family, MASH and Carol Burnett show.
I think later MASH would be replaced with the Jeffersons. MASH moved to Mondays.
When we in America think of a bus-driver comedy show, we of course think of Jackie Gleason in the 1950s Honeymooners show.
On The Buses certainly doesnt compare to Honeymooners. It is entirely different.
It may be dated, but it is incredibly solid. I've only had access to twelve episodes that became available on VHS.
Why are the buses green? Are these in London? I can't recall what color the buses were I rode on when I was in Britain last time, guess I didn't notice.
shareThe buses in the TV series are green as they are Luxton and District Bus Company (fictional for the series) but the London Transport buses are red.In the On The Buses films the buses are red.
As far as whether it is true to life then many a busman of that era will tell you it is.

In certain areas of North England at that time and now, buses were/are green and indeed other colours. In London they have always been red, but is the series set in London, or some generic southern city?

I can't believe no one has pointed out that this was the series that fabulous US series, Lotsa Luck, was based on.
