In the series and the 3 films it shocked me that Reg varney is 20 years older than Stephen Lewis because i always thought that Stephen Lewis was older than him, in the show it seemed that Blakey was about 70 and Stan was 40 not that Stephen Lewis is 70 now 33 years later from holiday on the buses.

On the Buses is still very funny. It is shocking to see how spartan and crude the seventies were. It really conveys that Victorian repressed sexuality that we all endure in British society. Sex is dirty and something to be snig-gerred at! (I have to hyphenate as IMDB deletes the correct spelling).
I find Arthur's dead pan asides to Olive very funny.
It does seem ridiculous that middled-aged Jack and Stan were 'getting off' with 'birds' that were young enough to be their daughters. Was that not considered odd at the time?
About the only bad thing that can be said about this show is that if you don't like innuendo you'll hate it. ("Where's me tape measure?" "You were usin' it in bed last night.") But this is indeed one of the greatest series ever. And it surprised me that Blakey was younger than Stan too. The grey mustache does something to him...

I couldn't believe it when I found out how old Reg Varney was when he filmed it too - he doesn't look that old in them! Plus, I agree it is slightly suspicious how they always managed to pull all the fit young "birds". :)

yea jack looked older than stan, reg varney was 53 when the show started and 57 when it ended, so its not unlikely that those clippys hes was dating could have been young enough to be his grand daughters... lol...
reg varney was 91 this year, he apparently lives in dartmouth which is about 10 miles from where i live and i can honestly say ive never seen him there.
i think that reg didnt look that old, so no one even questioned his age, the fact women were young, i would have sdaid he was mid 30s and he was in his late 50s at the time!

If the information on IMDb is accurate, then Reg Varney was 10 years older than Stephen Lewis, not 20, as Varney was born in 1916 and Lewis in 1926.
