Anyone know why they would do this?

I'm a loser - big Brady fan. Used to watch it all the time when I was a kid, and got the DVDs when they came out. Lately, just looking for something to watch when I eat dinner, I've been watching episodes on Pluto on the Roku when they're one, but I've noticed Pluto likes to cut short bits (like 30 seconds or less) out of the episodes.

For example in an episode where Peter breaks the vase and avoids confessing, all the other kids confess and wait in the family room so their parents can talk to them. There's a part where Jay says, "Thud" and then drops backward (she's sitting on a chair). This part is cut.

In the Slumber Party episode, there's a part where Mr. Brady goes to talk to the principal about a drawing that causes issues. At the very end of the conversation Mike asks the principal if the teacher actually looks like the drawing and the principal says something like, "sadly, she does". They cut this part out, too. I've noticed other scenes cut as well. Why would they cut out such shorts bit, that kind of add to the humor?

To put in advertisements in their place?

reply

The show was already broken up appropriately for commercial breaks.

Yep, but in the old days, there wasn't as much time for ads as there is now. A modern episode of The Big Bang Theory, for example, was only about 18 minutes. The old Brady Bunch had a much better ratio of show to ads.

Today they cut more to put more commercial time. Plus they have to cut out a lot so people don't have meltdowns over the content.
