Season 6 without Mike Brady...

Barry Williams mentioned in his book that if the Brady Bunch had lasted another season, Sherwood Schwartz would have gotten rid of Robert Reed... do you think the other characters could have carried the show without him?

That's a tough one. Mike is one of the best TV dads. They could have pulled it off if they kept Mike Brady with a different actor and had great writing. Killing him off or leaving the family would be out of the question for a feelgood show like that

I agree, but *today*, it would work! In today's society, Mike would run off to be with his boyfriend, become a transsexual, and run for office in San Francisco as a darling of progressives everywhere!

I think the show as a whole was coming to an end anyways. They ran out of ideas thus the dumb rabbit hair tonic episode. Which is why Reed wasn't in that one because he thought it was stupid. Plus, all the kids were older, not cute anymore, and not as funny.

Well, Jan was beautiful and Marcia was still.. in Barry Williams book, he said Sherwood had planned to either make Carol a widow or Mike would have left on a business trip, never to return..

reply

I agree. I think Jan passed up Marcia in the looks dept by the last season. That would have been a dark way to continue a series.

Reed was a solid citizen and a mentor to those children. One time between seasons he took the whole kit & caboodle of 'em to England, all expenses paid. Somewhere there are Super 8 footage of the kids on the cruise ship and sites around London.

- The last phone call with Henderson: "Tell the children I'm sorry, but, I'm not going to be able to make it."

Robert Reed was a great man.
