when Travis and Peanuts are star gazing they pass what could be a cigarette or joint between each other but as it is not smoked it's a little unclear what it is.
Any clues..
I think it is a bullet, Hereafter. Travis passes it to Peanuts, to see if he will join their rebellion. Peanuts, the scientist whose gaze is starwards, rejects it. Travis, whose concerns are more earthly, switches to watching the Girl at some far-off (imaginary?) window. The Rebellion is not for disengaged intellectuals; it is for instinctive rebels.
