boy, the little thumbnail synopsis on the main page makes the "situation" sound a lot like The Goodbye Girl - guy comes to town, gets a job, a single mother & her kid are squatting in his quarters...

There are many similarities (I even thought about The Goodbye Girl when I saw Penny). The parallels stop though, at the very very end
