D. Pleasance + the evil Deliverance-style hillbillies

This is a raw, emotional, and at times creepy western. Charlton Heston is an aging ranch hand who helps a woman and her child make it through the treacherous winter. Donald Pleasance is outstanding as the down-right insane villain who is the father of a family of evil hillbillies. They are the wild west version of the rednecks in “Deliverance.” But overall, this movie is too dull. 2.5 action rating

It's a drama with some action in it. If you take that in mind when you watch the movie, hopefully you won't find it dull, because it really isn't.

I thought the hillbillies in Deliverance had the menace factor just right, whereas Donald Pleasance overdid the part to a point of silliness. He played a similar nutjob in Soldier Blue.

Why is it we're not supposed to use racial slurs against Italians, Blacks, Jews, Poles, Native Americans, etc., etc., but it's OK to use terms like "hillbilly", "cracker" and "redneck" when speaking of white folks who are poor and from a rural background? Not being contrary, just trying to start a dialog.

"Hillbilly", "cracker", and "redneck" imply white trash, which Pleasance and his family certainly were. There are plenty of poor, rural, white folks who aren't degenerate pigs living in filth. Those three derogatory terms aren't usually used to refer to them.
