Other movies influenced by 'Thomas Crown?'
This movie is so stylistically and visually creative. Any thoughts on directors or movies who were influenced by it?

shareI can't think of any specific directors who were influenced by it. I watched it today and I did notice that the scene in which vikki and thomas "play chess" was similar to the seduction scene in austin powers: the spy who shagged me between austin and ivana humpalot lol.
shareRoger Moore as James Bond was probably influenced by it, Icy and blondish. Or any movie where a spy has to be "super cool" yet elusive. Daniel Craig resembles very much a young Steve McQueen. And didn't Sheryl Crow write a song about Steve McQueen? His brand of good looks, self confidence, quiet , not cocky, never goes out of style. (The scene where he looses the golf bet, and replies, "Well, what else is there to do on a Sunday" I found unique since he was just looking for a bet and not horribly upset he lost. where in today's films, the leading man would have got the ball sunk)
I found this movie very stylish, and it probably influence many filmmakers, the way Bladerunner did. Probably any Heist movie director, Mission Impossible, owes some of its influence directly or indirectly to this film. Probably, when it came out, the whole look was popular in ads in Esquire for liquer. Wasnt Faye Dunaway also ahead of her time? Back in the 60's wasn't it unusual for a women to be career minded and self centered, yet not afraid to bed a good looking man? and not have a women just as housewife/mom? I remember reading that when the tv shows "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Maude" came out in the early 1970's, they were considered feminist, although now they look ordinary.
I believe you meant stylistically and visually influenced. Not from its script.
Steven Sodebergh is clearly influenced from THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR
Yeah, I did, but I'm enjoying all the responses.
"Hot sun, cool breeze, white horse on the sea, and a big shot of vitamin B in me!"
Yeah... That's what i thought too. I was watching thomas crown and i was thinking about how the style of Steven Sodebergh's movies resembles that of this movie.
shareI said this elsewhere but Faye Dunaway's wardrobe was fantastic. The colors and styles really suited her. At a time when the hippie look received a lot of attention, this haute style was also very prominent.
"Two more swords and I'll be Queen of the Monkey People." Roseanne
I would suspect that Tarantino's movie RESEVOIR DOGS was influenced by THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR. It too had robbers who only met to do a robbery.
Also the split screen picture effect was done later in the sequel to the George Lucas movie AMERICAN GRAFITTI. I believe it was called MORE AMERICAN GRAFITTI. I still laugh when I think of the scene where the army thought that Toad was blown up with the porta-potty/laterines. Perhaps the only funny part of that whole movie.

Liberals kill with ABORTION.
Conservatives kill with the DEATH PENALTY.
I kill with WORDS.
There's another movie too that has the same premise as Resevoir Dogs, but I can't remember right this moment.
And I had completely blocked that American Grafitti had a sequel. But I remember clearly that Porky's was a trilogy.
Sad.

I think John Frankenheimer's 'Grand Prix' was the first to use that split screen effect.
