the plane/glider thing he was flying

does anyone know what they are called?

Sometimes it's love ... sometimes it's just Tuesday.

The sailplane (N9860E) that McQueen flies early in the movie is a Schweizer SGS 1-23H-15. It is still in use in New York.

"The Windmills of Your Mind" sung by Noel Harrison, son of actor Rex Harrison. The soundtrack of The Thomas Crown Affair is available on CD.

Hmmm... did that song win any awards?

It's almost as though people don't know that trivia is available for the movie by clicking on the "trivia" link.

The first reply got the type of plane right - a Schweizer 1-23. This is a single-place sailplane (in other words, not useful for training). It was a bit clunky even in those days, when the really sleek gliders were starting to come out of Europe. But old, reliable and not expensive -- and fun to fly.

The current FAA database, if you check the N-number, shows that it's still flying and now owned by a guy in North Carolina.

If you liked those scenes, try gliding -- it's a beautiful experience.

Sad to say, it looks as though the glider is now a write-off. See the salvage report and pictures at:

But maybe I am wrong?
