She saw the ad posted by the Police in the newspaper and she turned him in.

Why?

I think she despised her husband and wanted out of the marriage, so $25K would be very useful to her.

Also, $25K was worth a hell of a lot more in the 1960's than it is today. It would probably be over a million today, adjusted for inflation. Considering how frustrated she seemed, it's not surprising she would fink on her husband.
