This is one of my favorite movies.
I recently watched it again and wondered why Pope Kiril felt obligated to wear a business suit for his visit with the leaders of Russia and China.
I can't believe that simple white pontifical garments would be any greater a delineation between him and the Chinese head of government than is evidenced by their obviously different racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Especially considering that the Chinese leader is wearing Communist military garb! I agree that this was a weak point.
shareMaybe he felt that wearing it would be a gesture the Chinese would appreciate, thus helping him in his efforts.
I liked the earlier scene where he wants to tour Rome without a full entourage of aides, press and security men; so he has his orderly bring him an ordinary cassock, so he can take a walking tour of the city without anyone noticing him too quickly.
