The red socks

I just watched the Shoes of the Fisherman but I did not see the scene where Karil is going the ceremony to be formally elevated to Cardinal. To complete his ensemble he is required to wear red socks and in a panic he is driven around to various stores to find some, and he is eventually successful. At the ceremony he notes that the African Cardinal was not.

Did I miss it? IMDb doesn't list any alternate versions and TCM claims their movies are uncut.

So, did I miss it?

I have seen the "uncut" version of "The Shoes of the Fisherman" from several different places and have never seen this scene. I read the book years ago and still carry around in my head many remembrances from the book-- but I still can't remember the scene you are describing.

2 hour and a half on this DVD version, but that scene is not here.

I wonder if you're thinking of a scene in the movie, "Saving Grace."

It's been too long ago that I've seen that movie, but I know that there are similarities. A man questioning himself and his situation wanders out of the Vatican and explores Rome in both movies.

Like the others who've replied, I sure don't remember any issue of socks in the shoes of the fisherman.

I remember that scene, but it was not in The Shoes of The Fisherman. It was in a biopic of Pope John Paul II made shortly after his election to the papacy. I believe the film is "Pope John Paul II" starring Albert Finney in the title role.

Hope this helps.
