Conclave question
One of the cardinals in the conclave appeared to be wearing Eastern Orthodox garb - does the Eastern church send representatives/have a say in the election of a new Roman Catholic Pope?

There are a number of Eastern Catholic Churches who still maintain organizational community with the Holy See. They are separate from the Orthodox churches.

I believe Pope Kiril was supposed to be a Ukrainian Catholic bishop.

Good catch. It's sort of a long, and winding road, but basically, Ukrainian Catholic Church looks like, walks like, and even sounds like the various Orthodox Churches of Eastern Europe and the Middle East, but is in fact in full communion with the rest of the Roman Catholic Church. In fact there is a Greek Catholic Church, as well as other very similar churches, in communion with Rome throughout much of Eastern Europe and the Middle East as well. If you recall from the Exorcist, Father Damian Karras is of Greek descent, but a member of the Roman Catholic Society of Jesus; aka "Jesuit."
shareThank you. I wish this could have been posted over at the imdb Exorcist board in times past when folks were baffled by the question of "what the heck is a Catholic priest doing with a Greek name" non-issue. Your post is succinct and very helpful.
